H.E. Ambassador Professor Tunji John Asaolu stands as a towering figure in African diplomacy, international relations, and development policy. With an illustrious career marked by impact, excellence, and deep continental engagement, Professor Asaolu continues to leave an indelible mark on Africa’s governance landscape and global diplomatic affairs.
He currently serves as the Secretary General and a distinguished Supreme Council Member of the United World Congress of Diplomats (UN-WCD), headquartered in Canada with branches in London and over 134 countries. A leading voice for Africa on the global stage, he is also the Chair of the Governing Council of the prestigious African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassadorial Assembly, steering strategic visions aligned with the continent’s future.
Previously, Professor Asaolu served as the Deputy Secretary General (African Affairs) of the International Society of Diplomats (ISD)—a position that amplified his influence across diplomatic corridors. From 2014 to 2022, he was Nigerian Representative at both the 2nd and 3rd Permanent General Assemblies of the African Union Economic, Social and Cultural Council (AU-ECOSOCC) from 2014 t0 2022. During this tenure, he held the principal position of Chairperson of the Social Affairs & Health Cluster Committee, a role that saw him champion key policy reforms in health, social development, and civil society engagements.
A respected academic and thought leader, Professor Tunji Asaolu is the Vice Chairman/CEO of the African School of Diplomacy and International Relations, where he mentors and shapes the next generation of African diplomats and global changemakers. He is the Executive President of the Pan African Chamber of Culture, Trade and Investment (PANACCTI), promoting economic growth through cultural diplomacy and sustainable trade. His professional memberships include being a Fellow of the International Institute of Management Consultants and a Full Member of the Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management, etc.
His diplomatic credentials extend to global peacebuilding as the former West African Regional Director of the International Peace and Governance Council (UN-IPGC) between 2018 and 2022. In May 2018, his expertise was further recognized with his appointment as a member of the African Union Labour Migration Advisory Committee, where he provided strategic guidance on African migration and labor issues.
In the private sector, Professor Asaolu serves as Senior Consultant at Sheptas Global Resources Limited (since 2010), and he was a former Director of International Relations & Economic Affairs at the Ukraine Chambers of Friendship, Culture, and Commerce from 2011 to 2013.
His academic achievements span elite institutions across the globe. He holds an Honour Certificate in Social Justice from Harvard University (2014), an Advanced Diploma in Political Economy and a Certificate in International Law from the International Business Management Institute, Berlin, Germany (2018 and 2019). In February 2024, his lifelong dedication to political thought and diplomacy was crowned as he was promoted to the rank of Professor of Politics and International Studies by the Oral Roberts University, Oklahoma, USA.
A man of profound faith, Professor Asaolu is also a Minister of God, leading with both spiritual conviction and intellectual depth. He is happily married to Ambassador Mrs. Shepuya Asaolu, and together they are blessed with three beautiful children—two boys and one girl.
